BroadsideReader

Terms of Use

Effective date: 5 August 2026

These terms cover your use of Broadside Reader, an e-reader for iPhone and Apple TV. By using Broadside Reader you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the app.

Broadside Reader is provided by Kirates ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@lodestar.cv

What Broadside Reader is

Broadside Reader displays documents you already have, and lets you set how they are presented. Your library syncs between your own devices through your personal iCloud account.

Broadside Reader is not a bookstore. It does not sell, supply or host books, and it makes no claim to any content you open in it.

Your content is yours

You keep all rights to the documents you add. We claim no licence over them.

Your documents and reading data are stored on your devices and in your own private iCloud account. We have no access to them and never receive a copy. See the Privacy Policy.

You must hold the necessary rights to every file you add to Broadside Reader. It is your responsibility, and yours alone, to make sure you are legally entitled to access, open, store and read that material. You must not use Broadside Reader for anything you have no right to. That means no pirated books, no illegally downloaded files, nothing obtained by getting round a paywall, DRM or any other access control, and no copy made or received in breach of copyright.

Saving web pages

Broadside Reader can save a web page for reading later. When you do, it keeps a copy of that page's text on your devices and in your own private iCloud, for your own reading.

That copy is for personal use. Whether you may keep a copy of a given page depends on that site's terms and on the copyright law where you are, and that remains your responsibility. Broadside Reader does not strip paywalls or bypass access controls; it saves what your own browser has already loaded for you.

Purchases

Broadside Reader's subscriptions and any one-time purchases can be found in the app and on the App Store, and what's on offer there may change over time. Whatever form a purchase takes, it is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details.

Prices are whatever is shown in the app and on the App Store at the time. A change never affects a purchase already made, and any change to a subscription price is subject to Apple's notice and consent rules.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

Your indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, demand, loss, damage, cost or expense, including reasonable legal costs, that comes from or relates to the material you add to Broadside Reader, your use of the app, or your breach of these terms.

We will tell you promptly if a claim like this is made. You may defend it yourself, at your own cost. You may not settle it in a way that binds us, or admits anything on our behalf, without our written consent.

We host nothing

Broadside Reader is not a hosting, sharing or distribution service. Every document you add lives on your own devices and in your own private iCloud account, nowhere else. We do not host, store, transmit, index, publish or distribute your files. We have no technical means to see them, copy them or remove them.

If you believe someone is using Broadside Reader in breach of your rights, write to hello@lodestar.cv. We cannot take down a file we have no access to and never held. What we can do, and will do on credible notice, is end the licence of anyone using the app in breach of these terms.

Availability

We aim to keep Broadside Reader working and to fix problems, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Features may change or be withdrawn as the app develops and as Apple's platforms change.

Syncing depends on iCloud, an Apple service outside our control. Saving a web page depends on that site being reachable and readable.

Disclaimer and liability

Broadside Reader is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows.

Broadside Reader is a reading tool, not a medical or assistive-technology device. It offers accessibility features such as very large text, high-contrast colours and reading aids, and we take those seriously, but it is not a substitute for professional advice, assessment or prescribed equipment.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you are a consumer you keep your statutory rights.

Keep your own copies of anything that matters. Broadside Reader syncs through iCloud but is not a backup service.

Ending these terms

You may stop using Broadside Reader at any time by deleting it. We may suspend access if these terms are broken. Purchases already made are governed by Apple's terms.

Changes

If these terms change, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date, and material changes noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections where you live.

Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Broadside Reader. Apple has no obligation to provide support for it. Your use of the App Store is also governed by Apple's own terms, and Apple's standard end-user licence applies where these terms are silent.
